What are we about

SULFISCON is a Lausanne-based, pre-clinical drug development company founded in 2021 by researchers of the Rheumatology Unit of the University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV).

We are developing CSEPAMs, a first-in-class family of small molecules that raise the body’s own production of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), a natural anti-inflammatory gasotransmitter. Our lead programme is a topical treatment for moderate to severe psoriasis.

Why

H₂S is one of only three known gasotransmitters, alongside nitric oxide and carbon monoxide, and its therapeutic potential has not been fully developed.

By acting on persulfidation and on the redox pathways in mitochondria, H₂S levels can regulate cellular function in multiple sites and tissues. Rather than delivering H₂S from outside the body, our concept is to activate one of the enzymes that make H₂S in cells ( CSE or CTH).

By modulating H₂S production with an activator, we aim to keep H₂S within the limits set by enzyme and substrate availability, and to avoid potential toxicity.
